The Product

Ethanol alcohol is used for a number of purposes. It is an ingredient in drinks including beer, wine, and spirits, is used as a solvent in manufacturing, and disinfectants used in hospitals and doctors’ surgeries are actually ethanol as well.

There is a large and increasing demand for ethanol to be available for use as automobile fuel. Low blending with Petrol is 5 % in Sweden today. Many EU countries are blending up to 10 % and Sweden is planning to follow. Most Petrol cars manage this without adjustment of the Engine. The fuel E85 that is now used in some cars contains approximately 85 per cent ethanol and 15 per cent petrol. The petrol is included in the fuel in order to make cold starts easier on vehicle engines. During wintertime, a higher petrol content is needed in E85. The Engine must be adjusted to E85 i.e. FlexiFuel Vehicle (FFV).

A large percentage of ethanol is currently produced in Brazil. Ethanol is derived from wheat, sugar cane, or other types of biomass.
